Abstract:
Material informatics, selection diagrams, material properties databases, material maps, material selection procedure. Atomic models, potential properties, calculations of material properties from the first principles, computational methods. New trends in "classical" structural materials (steels for the automotive industry, superalloys for jet engines, self-healing materials) Principles of construction of composite materials, fibrous materials and their parameters, degradation processes in composites. Degradation and fractography, influence of extreme loading conditions and environment, durability and reliability, reliability design, degradation mechanisms. Smart materials - sensors and actuators. Principles and applications. Functionally graded materials, metamaterials, energy harvesting from the environment. Influence of defects, theoretical strength and its implications for the design of new materials. 2D and 1D materials.
