Changes in Organisation of Doctoral Studies from 1-9-2025

Dear students of the doctoral study programmes at CTU FTS,

In connection with the issuance of the amendment to the Higher Education Act No. 111/1998 Coll., changes are being introduced in the organisation of doctoral studies. For clarity, we would like to briefly summarise the main changes and how they will apply (there are not many) during doctoral studies for you as current students.

The amendment to the Higher Education Act abolishes the obligation to take the state doctoral examination during the course of study for students who enrol after 1 September 2025.

The study includes completion of a study block consisting of the completion of courses in the Individual Study Plan (ISP) and an expert discussion of the dissertation, and the study is then duly completed only by the state final examination consisting of the defence of the dissertation. The dissertation must be submitted no later than six years from the start of the study.

For students who enrolled before 1 September 2025, the obligation to take the state doctoral examination in its current form, in accordance with the provisions of the CTU Study and Examination Rules currently in force, remains in place.

Other adjustment related to studies:
Change to the appeal period: For submitting appeals (e.g., against termination or interruption of studies), a 15-day period now applies instead of the original 30-day period.
